Phone Safety for Babysitters

Phone Call Safety for Kids ๐ฑ๐ซ
Sometimes the phone rings and itโs not someone you know. Hereโs what to do to stay safe:
- Donโt answer the phone unless youโre allowed to.
- If you donโt recognize the voice, donโt talk โ go get an adult right away.
- If you do answer, never say youโre home alone or give out your name, address, or school.
- Remember: Real friends and family already know your name, and so do grown-ups like your teacher or caregiver.
- If something feels weird or scary, hang up and tell a trusted adult.
๐ก Safety Tip: Itโs always okay to ask for help!
Babysitting? Hereโs a Quick Cheat Sheet! ๐ถ๐ง๐งโ๐ผ
If youโre babysitting, here are a few extra steps to keep everyone safe:
- Before the parents leave, ask them:
โIs anyone going to call? Should I answer the phone?โ
(This is the easiest and best way to stay safe.) - If you need to call the parents, make sure you have their phone number written down or saved. You can also use tools like FaceTime if needed.
- Always keep the doors locked when youโre babysitting or home alone.
(This keeps little kids from wandering outside and keeps strangers from walking in.) - If you need to take a message:
- Politely ask the caller to spell their name and give their phone number.
- Repeat it back to them to show you wrote it down carefully.
- This shows that you are not a little kid anymore youโre a responsible babysitter!

You can print this for yourself or the people you babysit.
