Phone Call Safety for Kids ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿšซ

Sometimes the phone rings and itโ€™s not someone you know. Hereโ€™s what to do to stay safe:

  1. Donโ€™t answer the phone unless youโ€™re allowed to.
  2. If you donโ€™t recognize the voice, donโ€™t talk โ€” go get an adult right away.
  3. If you do answer, never say youโ€™re home alone or give out your name, address, or school.
  4. Remember: Real friends and family already know your name, and so do grown-ups like your teacher or caregiver.
  5. If something feels weird or scary, hang up and tell a trusted adult.

๐Ÿ’ก Safety Tip: Itโ€™s always okay to ask for help!

Babysitting? Hereโ€™s a Quick Cheat Sheet! ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿผ

If youโ€™re babysitting, here are a few extra steps to keep everyone safe:

  • Before the parents leave, ask them:
โ€œIs anyone going to call? Should I answer the phone?โ€
(This is the easiest and best way to stay safe.)
  • If you need to call the parents, make sure you have their phone number written down or saved. You can also use tools like FaceTime if needed.
  • Always keep the doors locked when youโ€™re babysitting or home alone.
(This keeps little kids from wandering outside and keeps strangers from walking in.)
  • If you need to take a message:
    • Politely ask the caller to spell their name and give their phone number.
    • Repeat it back to them to show you wrote it down carefully.
    • This shows that you are not a little kid anymore youโ€™re a responsible babysitter!
