My Journey into Stories & Songs

After arthritis forced me to step away from cooking, I found myself writing short stories and sharing them with friends. Soon, I began creating visual representations with the help of AI tools — a way to bring those stories to life.

One of the first lessons I learned came from a legal aid advisor: in Canada, cartoons or representations of real people and places require consent, so I chose not to use any images that could raise copyright or privacy concerns.

That same advisor also told me that if I planned to sell my work, I needed to be in good standing as a registered business. He advised me to let go of anything created by students, parents, or during my past employment as an educator, since I could not guarantee full intellectual property rights to that material.

So today, every story, lyric, and picture I share through Tallen Families Stories is something I created, revised, and approved for safe family use.

INSECTS APPLY BEATS CAN YOU

An interactive insect-themed song where children explore rhythm and beats inspired by buzzing bees, hopping grasshoppers, and beatboxing.

🐝 Click to Learn Why Insects? And Why AI?

Spring is here, and the bugs are buzzing! At Tallen Families Stories we asked: What if the alphabet wasn’t just sung, but explored through real animals, sounds, and actions?

Children’s books sometimes get pulled from shelves, and even the ABC has been re-imagined in ways that don’t always connect. So we decided to build something fresh and fun: a monthly themed alphabet series.

  • This month: Insects!
  • Next month: Ocean “Angry ABCs.”

Behind the Song: From AI to “Icky”

Each spring, I’ve taught lessons about insects and creepy-crawlies. The hardest part was always choosing which bug to spotlight!

When I couldn’t find a perfect insect for tricky letters (like D, I, or W), I turned to the classroom, each child picks a letter and 1-3 animals to present then we would try to ask as a class what one word or sentence discribed the animal. As the class list In Canada is consider the Classrooms intellectuals property

I used 2025 AI Goggle Search and asked prompts like: “List 3 insects starting with K and a fun fact about each.”

🪲 1. Katydid A leaf-like green insect known for its chirping. Common in kids’ songs and fun to animate!

🐞 2. Kissing Bug A real insect known for biting around the mouth (not as cute… but very real). Found mostly in the Americas.

🐜 3. Killer Bee A hybrid bee species known for its aggression.

This gave me a pool of characters with both learning value and rhythm like the Red Admiral butterfly orhis gave me a pool of characters with both learning value and rhythm like the Red Admiral butterfly, and Killer Bee. My Grandpa raised bees and was Deathly Allergic yet he could tend to them with minimal fear. I decided after reading Killer be to defend bees as helpers, while clarifying that wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets are the real pests.

AI offered the raw data and names but the heart of the lyrics came from me. For example, instead of “Insectivore,” I wrote “I is for Icky!” because that’s what made toddlers and parents laugh. And laughter makes the alphabet song better than any “Fact or AI generated song”. That’s how this song was born from out of years of teaching, a dash of AI research, and lots of laughter.

Original Song Lyrics Vs Spotify Lyrics

A Song That Sparks Curiosity and Creativity
Originally, the song featured the line “V is for Variegated Meadowhawk, a dragonfly that’s all the talk” a playful nod to nature and rhythm. However, it was later removed to avoid sounding too AI-generated. The beatboxing element, taught by a talented local artist in Whitehorse, added a hands-on educational layer, showing kids how pronunciation can become percussion. During performances, children often notice that letters Q, R, and S repeat, and that U and V are skipped and this shows the song creates unexpected questions and engagement. This intentional quirk turns the song into a learning moment, blending music, curiosity, and community. Using AI music labs I tried several prompts before landing on a blend of Children’s music and HipHop. The real sound changes with sentence structures and word changes. Using spaces creates pauses for each line. Brackets caused children’s sounds against the Hip Hop flow.

🦙 Lamma Lamma: Songs for Action and Imagination

Kamloops has a great place called “Little Farmers Zoo” with Lammas and Goats. My wife and Nieces love it and a song while getting the youngest ready became a classroom hit. Lamma Lamma can be replaced with the child name and activity. Singing creates mental checklist great for developing minds.

🦙 Lamma Lamma: A Morning Checklist in Song

Why this song?
Lamma Lamma isn’t just silly fun — it’s a musical morning checklist that helps children practice independence while laughing and moving. Each verse combines an animal action with a real-life morning routine step.

  • Put on shirt and pants → Pretend to be a lamma stretching into clothes.
  • Brush hair and teeth → Funny faces, animal noises, and pretend brushes.
  • Make toast and bananas → Practice simple motions with hands.
  • Eat toast → Pretend munching brings everyone together.
  • Monkey chest-beating → A free play break for big movement.
  • Take a picture → Stop and “pose” as a reminder for parents/teachers to check: Does the child have everything before leaving?

Why the rushed transition?
The move from Monkey Free Play to Taking Pictures is intentionally quick. This is the hardest part helping children stop, focus, and reset. It trains them to pause and pay attention, making it easier to either begin Circle Time calmly or head out the door prepared. Songs are a wonderful way to begin a group activity or story time session. Children love to come up with their own actions and lyrics, almost like a game of Simon Says.

Songs where each line is sung once and then repeated work especially well repetition builds memory, confidence, and laughter. And of course, silly words like “hairy” or “butts” feel like pure comedy to a 4-year-old.

Children also love pretending and mimicking what they see. They adore animals, and they copy adults all the time. That’s how the words “Lamma Lamma” were born. At first, I thought of Lady Lamma, but after seeing a playful card with a llama and a banana, I remembered the classic “Bananas in Pajamas.” The name “Lamma Lamma” felt inclusive, fun, and perfectly tuned for toddlers ages 2–5.

As children grow, they can imagine being different animals and invent new actions. For example:

  • “I am Lamma” → add animal actions or silly logic.
  • “Put on shirt” → doesn’t need to rhyme! It’s about connecting the thought to the action.

When children act out putting on a shirt, their brains quietly measure the time it takes — like how fast or slow a lamma might get dressed. You can pause the song on your phone, sing it out loud, or let the children add their own ideas.

I often repeat the first line two or three times. This helps even shy children join in by the third line. It builds teamwork and a sense of unity. That’s why Lamma Lamma makes such a great introduction song, especially when you need something lively rather than quiet to start with.

Pro Tip for Parents & Teachers:
If a child is disruptive, invite them to lead the last action instead. Asking, “Can you help us end the song before we sit down?” turns their energy into excitement. This way, the child becomes a helper and role model instead of a distraction.

TALLEN FAMILIES SEA WELCOME

Part time I would come home wet from dishes and I started thinking what would I do if I quit.

Click here for Pirates, and First Lyrics

This song was born out of a simple class conversation. In an English-for-beginners lesson, we talked about pirates and how, in the Philippines, even fishermen sometimes had to worry about them. That spark of imagination led me to write my first pirate-themed lyrics.

The same day, I applied to become a registered business, and my plan was approved. That “orange-highlighted text” below shows how the lyrics became the starting point. A friend suggested, “Why not use AI to help shape it into music?”

At first, I tried several free music generators, but none of them respected the words I had already written. That’s why I chose AI Music Labs — it was the first tool that let me keep my lyrics at the center while experimenting with sound.

This pirate song became my first test of blending authentic writing with AI assistance.

I typed my course and original lyrics into Chat GTP and this is what it Recommended

Come grab your friends we need a choir!
Someone like me, but who sings higher.
I won’t forget my friends down low,
We just needed a part that’s nice and slow.
..

Deep voice from the littlest child

“I can’t believe there was a spot for me
A ramp for my voice, a chance to be.
If I belong… then so can you.
Just turn this up and belt your tune!”

TFS presents: Songs for Every Emotion

All songs on this album were created and owned by John Tallen, under the Tallen Families Stories project.

The instrumental tracks were generated using AI Music Labs, guided by my original ideas and prompts to create custom music. I did not use any pre-made loops or samples from public libraries like GarageBand, FL Studio, Logic, or other stock packs.

Each song was edited, arranged, and mixed by me using Audacity, and includes my own spoken lines, background vocals, or disclaimers.

No parts of these songs come from movies, TV, public domain audio, or other people’s social media content. All rights are reserved.

I encourage families and educators to use my music for fun, learning, and creating family memories — but please do not remix or upload my music as your own.

This is my music brings back my voice, and my stories shared with joy, made with care, and protected for my listeners.

April Fools AI Polka Dot

Polka Dot AI Album Cover for TFS presents Songs for Every Emotion

Chat GTP and AI Music Labs was used to alter Polka dot Surprise. Then was revised by Tallen Families Stories this was the result:

I woke up this morning, rubbed my eyes,

Looked in the mirror what a surprise!

Covered in polka dots, head to toe,

Where did they come from? I don’t know!

Tried to scrub ’em off uh oh, no luck!

Now I’ve got stripes like a rainbow duck!

Mom yelled, “Hurry, it’s time for school!”

Dad just giggled, “Ha! April Fools!”

Polka dot, polka dot, now with stripes and more,

Toothbrush talks and clothes on the floor.

Backpack honks like a moose on the loose,

This must be a prank from a silly goose!

Polka dot, polka dot, what’s the news?

Fridge just danced in my grandma’s shoes!

 Someone help, I’m confused…

My cat just said, Today There are no rules!

Oh

Tried to get dressed, but my socks ran away,

My hat did a cartwheel and yelled, “Hooray!”

My cereal bounced like a frog in the bowl,

This prank-filled day is outta control!

The fridge said “Boo!” and started to laugh,

The toaster made toast shaped like a giraffe!

I asked for calm, just needed some peace…

But my sandwich did yoga with a piece of cheese!

Polka dot, polka dot, my head is spinning fast,

Pictures wave as I walk past.

Oh

Moose with a backpack, fridge doing jigs,

 My cat’s wearing grandma’s wig!

Polka dot, polka dot, don’t be cruel…

My cat just winked Come on “APRIL FOOLS!”

“No rules today!” said my talking chair,

“Let’s fly to school in scuba gear!”

“Bounce on your belly, ride on a sneeze!”

“Let’s prank the sun and tickle the trees”

“Polka dots, stripes, what should I do?”

“Laugh out loud Join us soon!”

“April 1st is wild to me, it’s hard to cope…”

My grandpa said “Brush your teeth with rainbow soap!”

Polka dot, polka dot, surprise attack,

Now I’ve got googly eyes on my back!

One last laugh before they snooze…

Remember, you are the ones that said there are no rules!

So I grabbed some jelly and dad shoe,

Filled the sink with slime and toilet with shampoo goo!

I tied balloons to the family cat,

Then hid behind Mom’s keys in litter box with the cat.

Dad slipped on glitter coffee, and Mom found an eye in her pie,

Shaving Cream flew through the air and hit the fridge who started to cry!

Mom and Dad both stood shocked, then burst out in cheer,

“Okay, you win! April Fools

But we’ll get you next year!”

Deni Rocks

This is Deni’s Song about Rocks

Hello everyone I am someone new. Not a Dragon but a Capybara girls and dudes!

I had to sneak in on this track before Mr. Talon comes back not to be rude

I just corrected him so many times I didn’t know what else to do.

He keeps calling this Deni’s Rocks but that’s not the name

It is Deni Rocks see not the same.

If you came here to learn about Geology thats just not me.

I like to share Rocks only visually.

I like them big ones as big as a van. I love little ones multicolor in the sand. I love the crystals and the geodes with a prize millions years old.

Mr. Talon this is not a geology song talking Igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary.

He keeps saying “Deni Rocks,” oh my word,

But it’s Deni Rocks haven’t you heard?

Don’t scratch my rocks, no scales for my chunky friend today,

I just like like! rocks in a visual way!

Kids you Can Sing along Too

Deni Rocks! Deni Rocks!

Because they shimmer and sparkle in the box!

Deni Rocks! Deni Rocks! Deni Rocks!

I hold them tight, I never toss!

If you nicely say can I have olne I say get lost.

Wait a sec thats not nice but don’t touch my Rocks and you won’t get beat!

Igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary which one needs pressure which one needs heat?

Deni everyone sing with me because

This is my jam, and Deni Rocks!

I love the big ones, the size of a van,

Tiny rainbow ones that fit in my hand.

Geodes hiding crystals deep inside

Millions of years in a glittery ride!

They’re smooth, they’re rough, they feel so cool,

Each one’s like a little shiny jewel.

Not for science, just for fun,

Holding rocks is number one!

Deni Rocks!

Because of how they look! How do they look?

Deni Rocks! (Hey)

And the way they feel, oh look!

Deni Rocks! (She rocks!)

Even Mr. Talon agrees…

They rock because… she has a page at Tallen Families and that rocks, you see!

Down By the Lake Fire \or Hungry Fire Song

Down by the Lake or Hungry Fire Album cover

Down by the Lake FireThe Hungry Fire Song sung repeat like “Down by the Bay
Down by the lake, Where the campers go,
Down to the fire, Where stories glow. I heard a camper say… The fire went CRACKLE! Then gobbled a snack Oh It swallowed my marshmallow, Down by the lake!   Down by the lake, With a smore on my plate, I turned my back Now it’s too late! The fire licked its lips… And gave a big grin, Then slurped up my hotdog right off the tin!
Down by the lake!   Down by the lake, With my socks all dry, I left ‘em close as I was told, But don’t ask why… That fire got bold, Like a sneaky raccoon, Now it;s shooting Flames as high as the moon. Down by the lake!   Down by the lake, Where ghost tales flow, The fire heard one And shouted, “Whoa!” It danced and it twirled, Like a whip cream on a hot coco swirl, Then burped up a tent peg with a flag unfurled! Down by the lake!
Down by the lake, When the night gets cold, The fire is hungry, Or so I’m told… It’ll toast your snack, And steal it back It’s the sneakiest flame so hide in a sleeping bag sack! Down by the lake!   So if you camp there, Hold your food tight… That fire gets munchy In the middle of the night! It may not bite, But you just might find— Your fuzzy old pillow got toasted behind! Down by the lake!   By Tallen Families
Down By the Lake Where the campers go, Down to the Fire Where stories are told  I heard a camper say  (Repeat each time)   The Fire went snackle then gobbled my taco (any rhyming food).   Down by the Lake.   Repeat for each child that has a share.   Other Tallen ideas   I the flames jumped on to my winter coat then it burped leaving smoke   Down By the Lake   The sparks always try to leave now they sneak away with every breeze. Dragon Calling Home

The Story behind Dragon Calling

I except if you looked at my situation right now, you might never expect to find that my life literally began with a jet ride.

Tallen Family Stories explores how hardship, family struggles, and early responsibilities shape our experience as adults.

This website isn’t built on perfection, or waiting for some magical diagnosis that everything will be okay.

It’s built on a declaration:

Even when life gets hard

even when the world feels broken

strong families can still thrive.

The site, like me, is imperfect.

But just like life itself, I believe it’s still beautiful enough to share.

Here, we talk about health, but not just in terms of sickness.

Health isn’t just the presence or absence of illness.

It’s the impact it has on purpose — on how we live, love, and carry on.

Sickness isn’t just about the disease.

It’s about the emotional strain it places on families —

and how that strain is often matched with financial burdens, broken plans, and unexpected hardships.

Life throws storms whether you’re ready or not.

And when those storms hit, many friends and even family may drift away.

The world gets smaller.

The room gets quieter.

And the people still standing beside you

the ones who stay through the worst days

become the true definition of family.

When people say they started from the bottom,

I say, I started as a dragon.

I was born premature, no bigger than a grape,

From town to city, racing time before my vitals tried their final escape.

I was born too soon, with no time to cry and bawl,

I learned to fly before I had my first crawl.

I wasn’t born like most of you, you see

They cut me free from my mama’s shell with urgency.

A dragon-sized C-section for something so small,

Williams Lake to Vancouver skies, and back before my Dragon Call.

So before you say small means fragile or weak,

Just meet Mr. Talon, the dragon who sings when he speaks.

Lets sing a Chorus

“When the world gets smaller, the noise grows loud,

don’t compete with your voice trying to rise above the crowd.

You were made to sing, you were made to shine,

Even broken hearts can keep perfect time.

So sing your song, let your spirit roam

The ones who love will join in feeling like home.

You were made to sing, you were made to shine,

Even broken hearts can keep perfect time.

So sing your song, let your spirit roam

spend time with love ones and call them home.

When the world feels bigger than your tiny shoes,

And you’re told you’re too little yet to old to cry the blues,

When the room gets quiet but your thoughts race fast,

And you’re just wishing this storm would pass…

You’re not alone, even when you cry,

There’s a hand to hold, there’s a lullaby.

When the world gets smaller, the noise grows loud,

they said, “You might break if you dream too high,”

So they built walls and they closed the sky.

But you see colors where others see gray,

And your silence still has something to say.

“When the world gets smaller, the noise grows loud,

don’t let them slience your voice trying to rise above the crowd.

You were made to sing, you were made to shine,

Even broken hearts can keep perfect time.

So sing your song, let your spirit roam

The ones who love will join in feeling like home.

You don’t need fixing, you’re not a mistake

Even strong hearts sometimes ache.

When the world gets smaller, the noise grows loud,

But your voice can rise above the crowd.

You were made to sing, you were made to shine,

Even broken hearts can keep perfect time.

So sing your song, let your spirit roam

You were made to sing, you were made to shine,

Even broken hearts can keep perfect time.

So sing your song, let your spirit roam—

The ones who love you will call you home.

You were made to sing, you were made to shine,

Even broken hearts can keep perfect time.

So sing your song, let your spirit roam.

New Dad of the year when he packs the lunch.

Gross our Grove

I love the pile of bile it makes me smile

The stench of trash been cooking a while

 Rotten bananas dancing in decay

Maggots and mold they lead the ballet

Oh yeah bring the grime let it shine

The bugs and dirt they’re friends of mine

Don’t need no clean I’m living free In the filth is where I wanna be

Mud on my shoes it’s a sweet perfume The swampy stank fills up the room

Cockroach symphonies play on the floor A masterpiece of muck I just adore

Oh yeah bring the grime let it shine The bugs and dirt they’re friends of mine

Don’t need no clean I’m living free In the filth is where I wanna be

A world of grit a slimy bliss Every speck of dirt deserves a kiss

No soap no shine just let it flow In the muck and mire I call it home

Oh yeah bring the grime let it shine The bugs and dirt they’re friends of mine

Don’t need no clean I’m living free In the filth is where I wanna be

In the Flith is where I wanna be.

Jelly Fish Angry Ocean ABC

This song is better suited for wrestling mats, running or at home outside fun. This song is a great example for over stimulus especially in toddlers. This music might be too much and why it is the last song on album.

Album Cover image for Angry Beats Crabby Ocean ABCs and lyrics

“Ahoy, Children! Pull up a shell and rap with me,

From Angelfish to Zebrafish it’s an ABC Sea!

Drop that anchor here we go!

A is for Angelfish  golden fins that swish,

Shining like treasure on a jellyfish dish!

B is the Bloop  from a Blue Whale maybe,

But MUCH louder  still it drives scientists crazy!

C goes Clack, click-CLACK! That Crab’s got claws,

He shuffles sideways and breaks pirate laws!

D goes Whoooosh! Like a Dolphin in flight,

Doing slick flips in the glowing moonlight!

E is the Eel — with a shocking light zap!

It slinks through the sea like a live wire trap!

Let’s make a splash —

it’s F time, no doubt!

Flying Fish leap when the Frilled Sharks come out!

G says “Glub-glub!” Hey Bub, that’s green sea Turtle,

The ocean’s wise bro with a shell like a circle.

H is the Herring  they sparkle and glow,

Like pirate coins tossed in the reef below!

I is Idiacanthus… spooky and slick,

With glowing deep-sea teeth that bite real quick!

J is for Jellyfish  jiggle jelly jellyfish and SPLAT!

Dance with the Jelly Jellyfish jellies I’d be down for that!

K goes Krunch! Krill rain down like rice,

Whale snacks floating tasty and nice!

L is for Lobster — with a red so loud,

Break sea rules? You’ll get pinched so proud!

M is the Manta — gliding real smooth,

Like a ghost pirate ship with underwater moves!

N is for Ningen — from Antarctic ice,

Pale and foggy, not once but twice!

O is Octopus — eight arms, no lies,

Changing shape before your very eyes!

P is the Pufferfish — poofed up and round,

But be careful, one bite and you’re sea-bound!

Q is Quinkana — quack-splash, it snaps!

An Aussie croc seen on pirate maps!

R is the Rockfish — blended real tight,

Hiding in coral like loot at night!

S is Sea Serpent singing sushi should not be slimy squishy as he slithers by!

T goes Tchk-Tchk un tiss un tchk! Boom, what a sight!

Tanenigia the squid drops rave-party light!

U is for Urchin with humans and seals licking lips,

Otters use pocket rocks until the Urchin breaks on its hips

V is a Viperfish who zooms like a dart,

With teeth so sharp they glow in the dark!

W goes wobble wibble whomp it’s the Warty Cuke,

A sea pickle that has a defense like a nuke!

Next is X an Xiphactinus — crunch and smash!

A dino torpedo with a monster mash!

Y is the Yeti Crab second to last— claws full of fluff,

Z is for Zebra Lionfish and Mr. Talon’s had enough!

Little Rock, where you from?

Little rock, where did you come from?

Were you hiding in the ground so deep?

Did you ride on  mountain snow, or wash with the rain,

where you always small for from something bigger did you break.

Oh, little rock, you’re bumpy and round,

I found you just lying there on the ground!

Are you old, are you new, are you a gift an alien in the sky so blue?

Little rock, Little Rock please tell me what’s true!

Did a volcano puff and send you flying?

Did an ocean roll you smooth when the tide was in?

Did you tumble with friends in a glacier slide,

Or shine in the moonlight at night?

Oh, little rock, you’re bumpy and round,

I found you just lying there on the ground!

Are you old, are you new, are you a gift an alien or maybe something New

Little rock, Little Rock please tell me what’s true!

Oh, little rock, you’re dusty and small,

But you’ve seen more than I ever saw!

Are you sharp, are you shy, are you part of the land?

Little rock, tell me your plan!

Some rocks sparkle, some are plain,

Some were shaped by wind and rain…

Each one has a tale to say—

In your pocket, it may stay!

Oh, little rock, I’ll carry you home,

You’ll sit on my shelf, not alone.

You’re a tiny time-traveler, quiet and wise,

Little rock, you’re a gift in disguise.

Will I show you to the Dragon or

keep your Geology name silent and hidden

Oh, little rock, you’re bumpy and round,

I found you just lying there on the ground!

to me you new, so pretty and blue? Perhaps I will call you Arron

Little rock, Little Rock please stay in my pocket until I know what to do.

Little Rock Little Rock I Really Really like you.

One Circle, Raise Your Child’s Voice

Many voices singing One Circle anthem

“Welcome to Tallen Family Stories.”

From the North we breathe the frozen truth.

From the Mountains we carry carved proof.

From the Fire we were forged, not burned.

From the Ocean’s edge our tides have turned.

You tried to drown the sound,

But silence screams the loudest now.

You tried to write us out,

But we’re the ink we bleed too proud.

One Circle  fists in the sky!

No shame, no fear  just battle cries.

All colors, all voices we won’t back down!

Raise your voice, shake the ground!

(Raise your voice…)

(Raise your voice…)

From the Stillness we learned to wait.

From the Strength we changed our fate.

From Firelight we built the stage.

Now hear the joy behind the rage.

Beatbox sermons, alley prayers,

You mocked the weird, the scars, the stares.

But harmony lives in the noise

And every whisper builds a voice.

Chorus Repeat

One Circle fists in the sky!

No shame, no fear just battle cries.

All colors, all voices we won’t back down!

Raise your voice, shake the ground!

You said “be quiet”

We said LOUDER.

You built walls

We brought power.

You fear what you can’t control

But we don’t fit your mold.

One Circle, hearts set a blaze

Turn the pain into a victory parade.

All kids, all flags, all fights

Raise your voice, own the night!

Raise your voice… )

(Raise your voice… for a child)

Polka Dot Surprise

Album of Polka dot surprise covers

Polka dot Suprise

I woke up this morning and I couldn’t believe.

So I looked in a mirror but wasn’t relieved.

I am covered in polka dots head to toe right before my eyes.

The monster under my bed caught me by surprise.

I tried to wash them off but it just got worse.

Now my spots are stripes like a colored striped horse.

My parents say, “Get ready for school!”

They both start to laugh as they say, “April Fools!”

I tried to get dressed but my clothes danced away.

My toothbrush just told me to have a wonderful day.

My backpack, while being open sounded like a goose,

Then It grew antlers like a silly moose.

Was I really awake or  in bed still fast asleep?

I really got to know as the fridge is being a creep.

When I asked it for some milk, like frogs my cereal did leap.

I really need help cleaning this mess.

Why is this happening? I can only guess.

For a moment there was silence…

My cat slowly walked in, meowed, then said:

“There are no rules because it is fun to prank on April Fools.”

Stories Quite Light

Tallen Family Stories Book cover

Do you have the time to listen?

I tried to speak, but crying’s all you hear

My world is built from blocks of fear

Each footstep shakes a memory loose

In a world too big, I’ve got no use

Mother’s tears fall like rain from above

They water seeds I don’t know the names of

We were going through some troubled times,

And not a thing or person could change your mind.

Hold me now, in the quiet light

Wrap me in stories  told at night

But I’ve been in my crib for what feels like days.

Just you and me alone for so many days.

Change isn’t that easy, and friends no longer come around.

Please send someone who can help us. I pray

that my baby will be safe and sound

Then doors swing wide, and in comes light

Familiar faces from a softer fight

A voice that says, “You’re not alone”

A warmth that feels like coming home

I rise above, no longer small

In floating dreams, I hear them call

From every tear, a flower’s grown

This broken heart’s a stepping stone

Hold me now, in the quiet light

Wrap me in stories you told at night

Even if the words don’t make a sound

We are safe, we are safe and sound

Mom I know change aint the easy

But mom I only need you to hold me,

So I can feel safe and sound.

You say you’re locked in a cage, surrounded by bad news.

No one else will pay the rent that’s due.

Please God, send someone to change my Mom’s views.

She’s tried so many things and claims she doesn’t have a clue,

Mom, at least for a while, relax your brain. Your beautiful laugh and smile will get me through!

Diapers or formula you will have to choose.

Decisions like this make you sing the blues.

Mom, keep telling me your struggles and one day maybe I ‘ll sing you the blues.

The child is practicing his blues again.

Change isn’t that easy, and friends still can’t be found.

You always tell me that you need me, I have become your hope for a “Safe and Sound.

I am still not sure what you see in me.

Like I was an old lost soul or a bottomless dream.

I cant tell what I mean to you but,

I see the sleepless nights on your face that darkness drew.

Mom Just rest tonight and tomorrow become brand new.

I have something I need to share with you.

You hold me as you kneel and start to pray,

“Lord, my hair is turning from dark to grey.

Please help me and my baby. If you send help, I will obey

And in this silence, love is found

The past is loud, but look at us now

We are safe, we are safe and sound.

Truth or Apologies

Truth is heavy. Apologies.” Is my poetic way suggesting that truth can feel burdensome or heavy. By saying “Apologies,” you acknowledge that sharing or carrying truth can be uncomfortable or hard for others to hear.

Truth is heavy Apologies.

I walk tall and happy no need to lie,

Just a guilt free little family spy.

You say it near me? I’ll say it aloud

Your quiet complaints just made the crowd.

Might tell your friend what you said ‘bout their hair,

Or that thing you whispered as if no one could hear yep, a week later I will share!

When I’m around, you’d better hush,

Or I’m gonna make you turn and blush.

No sweet disguise, no filter screen

I share the names and swears

you claim you did not mean.

I will repeat the words you didn’t clean…

Truth is heavy I let it ring!

Grandma, teachers, neighbors at the till

You never know whose tea I’ll spill.

From family feuds to kitchen fights,

I bring your private mess to light.

If You try to whisper, dodge questions, or try and spell

Guess what? I am young not dumb I can read and write quite well!

When I’m around, you’d better hush,

Or I’m gonna make you turn and blush.

No sweet disguise, no filter screen

I share the names and swears

you claim you did not mean.

I will repeat the words you didn’t clean…

Truth is heavy I let it ring!

When you say that’s enough…, well boo who

I will double it and give back just to see what you do

Keep your secrets fine.

But know for every secret I hold of yours this allows me to keep whatever Secrets I want only from you.  Truth is heavy I let it ring!

whatever Secrets I want let that Ring.

Our goal is to support Early Childhood Educators and parents in teaching children that while honesty is important, not every story is meant for the classroom spotlight. So if a child shares a private family moments unaware of the context or emotional weight respond with curiosity if needed if possible use no judgment including laughter or shocked faces. We are all human but by giving parents the opportunity to explain many mixed messages come from TV shows, older siblings, and social media, young children are still learning to tell the difference between imagination and reality.

Let’s create environments where parents feel safe to talk about real-life struggles without shame. Children learn best when adults model respect, trust, and open-hearted communication.

2. Wolf Called Little John

Song Title: Wolf Called Little John

Album: Circle Time with Little John & Friends

Artist: John Tallen / Tallen Families Stories

Genre: Children’s Music / Storytelling / Faith-Inspired

Description:
Based on the Little John storybooks, this song follows the young wolf through thunder, fire, and flood — teaching bravery, kindness, and the strength of family.

In Willowbrook, before a willy’s puddle, the summers came, with fire, with flood, with
Drought. But little John, he kept his faith, and walked the narrow mile

Oh, run, little
John, through the fire and the rain
God will guide your steps again
Be brave, be kind, when the night feels long
You’re never alone, your family’s strong

The schoolhouse burned, the flames left tree to tree, before the pigs claimed the crown. But floods will rise, and pride will break, for history brings kingdoms down

Oh, run, little John, through the fire and the rain
God will guide your steps again
Be brave, be kind
When the night feels long
You’re never alone, your friends rely on you
His mother prayed beside the well, his father held a song. Lord, keep our little one safe from harm. And bring him and his friends back home
Oh, run, little John, through the fire and the rain
God will guide your steps again
Be brave, be kind, when the night feels long
For you are never alone
Little John, your family’s strong

3. Just John

“Many moons and years ago, when John and Deni first met, she teased that I was ‘Just John. Her friends never called me Johnny but I was the guy with the big neck. That moment of being Just John stuck. This song carries that nickname forward, a playful reminder that sometimes being Just John is more than enough.” It tied into the song Jeff as I met a Jeff who was upset that his name was spelled wrong Geoff. I make animal noises and combined the two.

I am just John, not Johnny, not Johnson, not Jonathan, you’ve got it wrong
I don’t need a fancy name to lean on I’m me, and Deni says I’m just John
Just John, just John

That’s my name, come sing along
Not too short, not too long

Deni says I’m just, just John

Tim’s got Timothy, Timmy and more He hears a new nickname at every door
But me, I don’t play along But “Timmy” ain’t my song
I’m happy being just John

Jeff is Jeff, Jeffrey and Jeff
I only like this name stretched out of a giraffe’s neck

But me, I keep it steady and strong I’m proud to be just John
Just John, just John That’s my name, come sing along
Not too short, not way too long

I’m me and Deni agrees, and I’m just, just John
Just John, just John That’s my name, come sing along

Not too short, not way too long I’m me and Deni agrees, and I’m just, just John

4: Butter Fist Biscuits

Butter Fist Biscuits is about using language and humor to calm down. When you’re upset, instead of swearing, mix up some biscuits and share them with the person you’re mad at. The act of mixing by hand is grounding, and sharing food helps soften hard feelings.

Back in high school, I once showed a video of two toddlers swearing and joked, this is what it feels like walking into class some days. The class and I agreed to do rap battle with clean words. Here is my version with the original Asphalt line and course assisted with AI Music Labs.

Hey troubles, you’re nothing but asphalt
And you won’t see me crack
I’ll pave my own way for my calm to come back

When Butter Fist Biscuits break in your fist
Don’t cuss, don’t fuss, don’t throw a fit
Just shout dastardly dingbats And walk away from it

Dastardly Dingbats, let us be kind
Peace, don’t be gloomy, the sun’s gonna shine
Silly little words change when the sky feels blue
Why waste my time on hate or spite

Instead sing silly words to make things right
Hey anger, you’re asphalt!

You won’t see me crack
I’ll pave the way for my calm to come back

Butter Fist Biscuits are better with cheese
I ask the clock, got ten minutes please
It was ticked off as my shoes tapped their heels

So dastardly dingbats, I dance to heal
Dastardly dingbats, let us be kind
Peace, don’t be gloomy, the sun’s gonna shine
Silly little words when the sky feels blue

Why waste my breath on hate or spite
I’ll sing silly cuss words to make it right
Dastardly dingbats, let us be kind
Peace, don’t be gloomy, the sun’s gonna shine

Silly little words when the sky feels blue
Why waste my breath on hate or spite
I’ll sing silly cuss words to make it right

5. Jeff is Geoff. Geeeooooff

Geoff will be introduced as a main character in the This Ables book series (early 2026). He has already been hinted at in the Little John stories. One of Geoff’s unique traits is a speech impediment: he struggles to say his own name, and each attempt makes it sound longer and longer. What begins as “Geoff” may stretch into “Gee-gee-gee-offff,” creating both funny and tender moments in the story.

This trait isn’t meant to mock it shows how language challenges can shape identity and humor, while also reminding readers that everyone’s voice deserves to be heard, no matter how it comes out. Students will accept and mimic others out of respect we as a society teach was is accepting but TFS always suggest including the person you feel is being affected like them build their character.

I have a friend and his name is Jeff
He’s maybe a pony or a mini horse pet
But Jeff is too silly of a name, of course
So we call him Jeff

I have a friend and his name is Jeff
He’s grown a bit bigger and a little bit deaf
When we call real loud, he still won’t hear
So we shout, Jeeeeff, to make it clear

Now his name has stretched to Geoff
Because he goes off, it’s not short like a cough
He sings like it’s stuck in his throat
Like the bah, bah, bah of Billy the Goat

And every time he says his name
it stretches longer like a silly game
From Jeff, to Jeeeeff, to Geoff, so tall
His neck grows longer and he laughs with us all

Let’s all try his long giraffe neck called Geoff
Jeff, Jeff, Jeffrey,
Geeoooffff

6. Sue-Weet Piggy Princess

Sue-weet wasn’t always so sweet. Children all go through a phase were they test the waters with new names. Little Sue-Weet most will make subtle changes pretending they are innocent and sweet or perhaps a Villain era? When Little John first met her, she strutted around Willow Brook like she owned the place. She teased the smaller animals, pushed her way to the front of the line, and demanded the shiniest apples for herself. Some called her a bully, others called her a spoiled princess and Sue liked both titles just fine. In book three in Little John Series she will have a change of Heart and become an empathic helper in the community.

I’m Sue-weet, the princess pig
I want it all and I want it big
Candy, cookies, cakes for me
Mud baths daily Sticky as can be
Don’t say no, I’ll take it all
Big or small, I want the whole

Sue-weet, that’s me
Can’t you see, Covered in sugar, happy as can be
Sticky hands, sticky feet
Life is yummy when you’re Sue Sweet

I dip my donuts in chocolate goo
Then splash in mud, what else can I do
I’ll snatch your candy, I’ll lick your spoon
And roll in sprinkles all afternoon

Don’t say stop, I’m on a roll
Sticky sweets, they fill my soul

Sue-weet, that’s me Can’t you see
Covered in sugar, happy as can be
Sticky hands, sticky feet
Life is yummy when you’re Sue Sweet

Mud and candy mix it all
I’m the princess of the messy ball
Laughing loud, I love this treat
Forever greedy, Princess Sue weeet

Sue-Weet, that’s me, Can’t you see
Covered in sugar, happy as can be
Sticky hands, sticky feet
Life is perfect when you’re Sue-Weet

Sue Weet
Oh, you’re Sue, Sue Sweet
Oh, you’re Sue Sweet
That’s me, can’t you see

Covered in sugar, happy as can be
Sticky hands, sticky feet
Life is perfect when you’re Sue Sweet

7. Big Piggy: It Ain’t Stealing, It’s Credit

Big Piggy is Sue Weet’s and Oscars big brother. Unlike his sister, he isn’t bossy he’s charming rockstar that doesn’t mind his fans are bugs and insects. With a quick smile and a catchy tune, he sings about the “fine line between stealing and buying on credit.” To some, it sounds wise. To others, it sounds slippery.

Does Big Piggy really understand what he’s singing, or is he just a charismatic thief? That’s the question Little John and the Willow Brook friends will have to decide. One thing’s for sure whenever Big Piggy is around, you’ll want to count your apples and acorns twice.

Yo, it’s Big Piggy in the pen
Gonna tell you how I spend

I see candy on the shelf
I don’t pay, I help myself
Don’t get mad, don’t you sweat it

It ain’t stealing, it’s credit
It ain’t stealing, it’s credit Don’t you forget it
If I don’t pay today
I’ll get you when I can
I use credit It’s funny, it’s money I ain’t lent
Big Piggy got style, It’s the way my day is spent

Toys, cookies, sodas too
I’ll take one now and say I owe you
Write it down, no need to fret

It ain’t stealing, it’s credit
It ain’t stealing, it’s credit
Don’t you forget it If I don’t pay today
I’ll get you when I can
I use credit It’s funny, it’s money I ain’t lent
Big Piggy got style, It’s the way my day is spent

Sticky paws, muddy shoes
Piggy does what Piggy do
I’ll pay later, don’t you sweat it
It ain’t stealing, it’s credit

It ain’t stealing, it’s credit
Big Piggy won’t forget it
Big Piggy won’t forget it
It ain’t stealing, it’s credit

Don’t you forget it If I don’t pay today
I’ll get you when I can I use credit

It’s funny, it’s money I ain’t lent
Big Piggy got style
It’s the way my day is spent

Sticky paws, muddy shoes
Piggy does what Piggy do
I’ll pay later, don’t you sweat it
It ain’t stealing, it’s credit

It ain’t stealing, it’s credit
Big Piggy won’t forget it
Big Piggy won’t forget it
Big Piggy won’t forget it

8. Buzz Buzz Buzz

Buzzing is an unpleasant sound that began deep in a bear’s cave. At first, it was only a hum but the area ignored became closer to a swamp. The hum is brought to Willow Brook described as Pigs. Behind the masks a swarm of mosquitoes. These weren’t ordinary pests; they struck bargains with the forest animals, trading a single drop of blood in exchange for leaving them in peace.

Ooh, Whoa, oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh
Whoa, oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh
Buzz, buzz, buzz, here I come tonight

Buzz, buzz, buzz, don’t put up a fight
You swat and scream, get out, you pest
But I only want blood, it’s what I do best
What’s wrong with wanting the red

It’s dinner for me, not just for fun
You’ve got plenty, just a drop or two
Buzz, buzz, buzz, I’ll sip from you
Buzz, buzz, buzz, you spray that stuff

Buzz, buzz, buzz, but we just laugh it off
We don’t eat pizza, we don’t eat cake
One tiny taste is all we take
Buzz, buzz, buzz,

I’m not greedy, don’t make a fuss

Buzz, buzz, buzz, come share with us
Buzz, buzz, buzz, now you’re itchy, twitchy
I leave a bump to remember, I bite thee
But hey, don’t judge, don’t act so rude

I’m just a mosquito, dude
Find out what’s wrong with wanting blood
I’m just a bug, misunderstood
So when I buzz, don’t think it’s crude

Buzz, buzz, buzz, mosquito, dude

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,

9. Mud Castle Dreaming

Mud Castle Dreaming is told from the perspective of Oscar Pig’s siblings, living spoiled and proud off the “riches” gifted by the mosquitoes. To them, the watering hole is a palace, and every drop of dirty water feels like treasure. While Willow Brook’s drinking water starts making animals sicker by the day, the pigs only celebrate louder, singing of castles made of mud and dreams built on borrowed wealth.

We roll in the slop like kings of the scene Our castle’s made of mud, not marble or sheen
Slick walls so smooth they gleam in the sun Life in the muck is filthy fun
Mud castle dreaming, rolling so free Rich in the grime, that’s royalty
Filthy and fancy dirt’s our throne This mud’s not just mud, it’s a palace of our own

The moot’s made of puddles, the bridge is a stick Our chandelier’s a spiderweb, oh so slick
Walls built high with a hoof and a snout You call it a mess, we call it clout
Oh, the mud it holds, the mud it holds Rich in the dirt, richer than gold
Mud castle dreaming, rolling so free Rich in the grime, that’s royalty

Filthy and fancy dirt’s our throne This mud’s not just mud, it’s a palace of our own
Oh, the mud it hugs, the mud it holds Rich in the dirt, richer than gold
Mud castle dreaming, rolling so free Rich in the grime, that’s royalty
Filthy and fancy dirt’s our throne This mud’s not just mud, it’s a palace of our own

We don’t need silk, we don’t need lace Just a puddle party in our royal space
The world’s too clean, they’ll never know The wealth of a pig in the mud’s warm glow
We don’t need silk, we don’t need lace Just a puddle party in our royal space
The world’s too clean, they’ll never know The wealth of a pig in the mud’s warm glow

Change of Pace for a Moment

🌟 Artist Note on Cryptids Stomp

For those wondering, the Xanadu reference in “Xanadu stars light the ancient way” is not from the throat-singing piece of the same title (though that’s amazing too). My line was inspired by watching an old musical with Olivia Newton-John’s iconic Xanadu. You can find it easily on YouTube.

That video always reminds me of using AI for my music. With AI, I can layer instruments in hours that once took months. Xanadu is this vivid mix of roller-skating, disco, glam rock, dance, and club jazz. For the old people it blended Studio 54 sparkle with old Hollywood magic.

I like to imagine cryptids stomping their way through myth and music history the same way: Medieval, prehistoric, and modern sounds colliding together.

10 BC Cryptids by TFS

BC Cryptids celebrates three of British Columbia’s most legendary creatures. We honor the lake-dwelling Ogopogo of Okanagan waters, the sky-soaring Dinosaur, Thunderbird, or to me a Pterosaur which is the living Thunderbird. Of course TFS has to mention the forest dwelling Sasquatch. Each verse tells their tale the way neighbors have whispered them for generations: half legend, half possibility.

In Hundred Mile House, our story begins with a few hidden friends
A thousand acres and millions of trees
You will never get lost if you follow the bees
It’s not a plane or a bird, so don’t be absurd

It could be a flying pterosaur or a thunderbird
Shared with First Nations folks and their words
Oh, in the caribou and the Chilcotin as child, I was wild
I would play where the cryptids and the animals smiled

There’s a lake full of legends and a forest so deep
Secrets and wonders that the mountains keep
From the high open fields to the valley below
There’s magic in this country, so locals please protect what you know

Way down south, past Kamloops and through the pines
There’s a long, long lake with some mysterious signs
In Kelowna and all around, folks tell the same tale
Of the Ogopogo with a serpent’s long tail

He’s not a monster, no. He’s the spirit of the water, cousin of ness. A likeness, maybe kin or daughter
Oh, in the caribou and the Chilcotin as child, I was wild
I would play where the cryptids and the animals smiled

There’s a lake full of legends and a forest so deep
With secrets and wonders that the mountains keep
From the high open fields to the valley below
There’s magic in this country, so locals please protect what you know

Then there’s Sasquatch, all hairy and tall
He walks through the woods and he’s seen by all
From the coast to the Kootenays, he roams far and wide
With big giant footprints, he’s still somehow able to hide

He’s a shy one, a gentle giant, they say
Just watching the world in his own secret way
Oh, in the caribou and the Chilcotin as child, I was wild
I would play where the cryptids and the animals smiled

There’s a lake full of legends and a forest so deep
With secrets and wonders that the mountains keep
From the high open fields to the valley below
There’s magic in this country, so locals please protect what you know

So if you love aliens, cryptids, and animal friends
Come to Tallen Family Stories. com, where the magic never ends.

12 Sassy Sax of Sweet Susy Ogopogo

Most people imagine the Ogopogo like the Loch Ness Monster as a boy. But in this playful tune, an uncle travels underwater passageways with his niece, Susy Ogopogo. Together they fill the deep lakes with music: Uncle on the Scottish bagpipes, and Susy on her golden saxophone. Do you believe creatures larger than boats still hide in our lakes?

Susie Ogo plays the sax so sweet
She wiggles her tail and she taps her feet
Kelowna’s Long Lake is where she glides
From BC’s heart to Scotland where music collides
Okanagan Ogo, let’s go
Swing and jive, tap a sing, time to glow
Bagpipes blow and Uncle Ness sings
Lock it in place with the bags he brings

Lock it, lock it, lock it in place
Look it, look it, look at those feet
Saxophone laughing, bagpipes reply
A musical contest under moonlit sky
One serpent swings, one monster roars
A family jam from two distant shores
Sassy sax, a sweet Susie Ogo pogo
Vibe checking the bagpipes of a Scottish local

Thunderbird or Mr. Talon, tell us who’s coming next

13 Cryptid Stomp

Cryptid Stomp is an anthem that blends raw energy with ancient echoes. Heavy guitars and bass lay down a growling groove, while stomps, chants, and throat-singing shake the ground like legends come alive. The didgeridoo was meant to be an instrument in testing but thought Sasquatch playing one would be great as it hums like the earth’s own breath, carrying listeners into a celebration where Sasquatch, Ogopogo, and Thunderbird march side by side.

Deep in the shadows where the wild things play
Echoes of whispers that never decay
Hey, my cryptids, rise and shine
Feet on the earth, hearts aligned

Hey, my cryptids, can you hear the sound
Canada, Canada, shaking the ground
Through the smoke, through the fire, we bound
Hey, my cryptids, the lost are found

Eyes in the trees, they shimmer and gleam
Tales of the unseen, stitched in a dream
Hey, my cryptids, howl with the moon
Drums in the distance, calling the tune

Stomp it louder, shake the skies
Feel the rumble, spirits rise
Hey, my cryptids, can you hear the sound
Canada, Canada, shaking the ground

Through the smoke, through the fire, we bound
Hey, my cryptids, the lost are found
Didgeridoo hums like the earth’s old breath
Throat-singing chants echo life and death

Xanadu stars light the ancient way
Guitars growl, bass beasts obey

Hey, my cryptids, can you hear the sound

Canada, Canada, shaking the ground
Through the smoke, through the fire, we bound
Hey, my cryptids, the lost are found

Didgeridoo hums like the earth’s old breath
Throat-singing chants echo life and death
Xanadu stars light the ancient way
Guitars growl, bass beasts obey

14. Ranger Ranger, Lend a Paw

When Willow Brook floods, the animals don’t give up they start fresh in a new settlement called Willie’s Puddle. To help build and protect their town, a new team arrives: the Ranger Rangers a Canadian Animal Response group dedicated to service, safety, and respect.

Little John’s dad, already known for his Search and Rescue skills (Books 2 and 3), joins forces with new friends: a wise Loon in the RCMP, a strong Moose in the RCMP, a dependable Buffalo, and a mighty Bison. Together, they teach that being a good member of society means more than rules it means helping others, respecting differences, and remembering that nature itself must always be part of the conversation.

When the storm clouds roll, when the rivers rise,
When fire sparks under midnight skies
Don’t be afraid, don’t be a stranger.
Call on Mr. Wolf, the Rescue ranger
Ranger, Ranger, lend a paw.
Keep us safe, that’s the law
Any danger, big or small,
The rangers come to help us all

There’s a bison ranger out on the plain,
Guiding the herds through the wind and rain
And a buffalo officer, strong and wise,
Protecting the waters where the salmon rise
Ranger, Ranger, lend a paw.
Keep us safe, that’s the law
Any danger, big or small,
The rangers come to help us all

If there’s fire, flood, or quake,
The rangers teach what steps to take
Every emergency helps us learn,
So we’ll be ready when it’s our turn
Ranger, ranger, lend a paw.
Keep us safe, that’s the law
Any danger, big or small,
The rangers come to help us all

Ranger, ranger, lend a paw.
Keep us safe, that’s the law
Any danger, big or small,
The rangers come to help us all
The rangers come to help us all

15. Oscar Howls Wolf

In Book 3, Oscar grows weary of his family’s dishonest ways. Tired and concerned, he reaches out to Little John’s parents, hoping for guidance. When he sees his sister and friends in real trouble, Oscar does something unexpected he howls for Little John’s help.

His courage becomes a turning point: even Sue-Weet, once a bully and spoiled princess, begins to change after witnessing Oscar’s bravery. Through Oscar, the community learns that honesty and courage can spark transformation, even in the most unlikely places.

Oscar was small with glasses on tight
He read every book by the lantern light
He loved his school where he felt safe
Learning math and words at his own pace

Chorus, howl, howl, raise your voice so strong
Even the smallest voice can belong
Be brave, be true, you’ll find your song
Learn wolf with Oscar howl along

At home they teased him for being clean
His brother and sister were always mean
But he kept his spirit gentle and kind
He dreamed of a family he could find

Chorus, howl, howl, raise your voice so strong
Even the smallest voice can belong
Be brave, be true, you’ll find your song
Learn wolf with Oscar howl along

When Sue-Weet’s eyes grew bigger than the moon
Oscar prayed little John would be there soon
But a roar came rising from deep inside
Oscar stood tall with his head held high

Chorus, howl, howl, raise your voice so strong
Even the smallest voice can belong
Be brave, be true, you’ll find your song
Learn wolf with Oscar howl along

Howl, howl, raise your voice so strong
Even the smallest voice can belong
Be brave, be true, you’ll find your song
Oscar and children sing along

16. I’ll show up I’ll love you I’ll try

50 Feet Tall grew out of my old journals from a teaching memories. Fifteen years ago, when I first started teaching, Classified’s 3 Foot Tall was played in a high school classroom after the Muppet Version was shown. The Muppets showed an empowering song but Classified’s artist video shows bullying and words that cut deep terms I could never say in class but knew my students faced and even said themselves every day.

This song flips that perspective. Instead of feeling small, it’s about the joy of feeling larger-than-life through the eyes of children. A new Dad or Uncle gets the feels as the children grow they know they wont be a Superhero or Giant forever so they pause to remember the moment in song.

When you dream, I listen close by
So when you ask me why
I stop, I breathe, and take a moment
So it doesn’t just pass by
With a thousand lessons left to unfold
A little voice sharing stories to be told
Can anyone tell me why I’m feeling fifty feet tall

With every giggle, the world’s troubles seem small
I try to remember the world at your size
Each bruise, each sparkle, each wild surprise
All I can promise is day after day
I’ll show up, I’ll love you, I’ll try
Teach me how to start again
How to be soft, how to pretend

Not every answer needs to be known
We’re building something of our own
So if I ever feel far or unsure at all
Just know you make me feel fifty feet tall
I try to remember, I try to see
The world as it is, and what it could be
All I can promise is day after day
I’ll show up, I’ll love you, I’ll try

17. Press on, Oh Pioneers, Press on!

Press On, Pioneers is one of the most recent songs I’ve written, inspired by the hardships faced by both early religious pioneers and First Nations peoples across North America. While the histories and paths of Truth and Reconciliation differ between the U.S. and Canada, the shared story is one of endurance in the face of storms, snow, hunger, and pain.

This song is not meant to be political, but hopeful. It’s family-friendly and upbeat, a reminder that even in trials and persecution, faith can carry us forward. Whether you consider yourself a saint in any faith tradition, you’re invited to join Tallen Families Stories and sing along.

Press On, Pioneers began as an experiment with the old folk tune “She’ll Be Coming ’Round the Mountain.” My first idea was to add the phrase “Press on, press on” at the end of every line. But it never quite flowed. I adapted the course with AI Music Lab, tweaking instruments, adjusting lines, and lifting it into something new. The result is fun and upbeat, with a melody simple enough that parents, kids, and camp leaders can all sing along.

At its heart, this song is about courage through hardship. If you’re struggling, take a verse and sing it out loud. Sometimes a prayer in the heart and a psalm on the tongue are enough to press on.

As we came around the mountain
Guiding oxen, guiding kind
With the weary and the children
Still the Lord’s light brightly shined
Press on, oh pioneers, press on
Through the night until the dawn
With a prayer within our hearts
And a psalm upon our tongue
Press on, oh saints of God, press on

Though the first ones suffered greatly
In the snow and in the storm
Yet their footsteps paved the pathway
For the rest to journey on

Press on, oh pioneers, press on
Through the night until the dawn
With a prayer within our hearts
And a psalm upon our tongue
Press on, oh saints of God, press on

Through the trials and persecution
Through the hunger and the pain
Still we know the Lord is with us
Every loss becomes our gain

Press on, oh pioneers, press on
Through the night until the dawn
With a prayer within our hearts
And a psalm upon our tongue
Press on, oh saints of God, press on
Today the pioneers look down and see
A world still aching for, for peace and mercy

Many souls still seek to find a friend
Through truth and love these wounds can end
The news is clear, the work’s only begun
Reconciliation has started the promise
We all belong, regardless of your past
Your path can be kind and fun
Press on, until the end my friends, press on

18. Daily Guidance

This is a gentle prayer song about giving thanks throughout the day when we wake up, before our meals, and at bedtime. It’s a reminder to pause, show gratitude, lift others with kindness, and carry hope into tomorrow.

When morning comes and greets the day,
I kneel and find a space to pray
My spirit lifts, my heart takes flight.
I thank you for a chance to do what’s right
I stand and walk in kindness now.
With happy thoughts I make a vow
To lift a friend and ease their sorrow.
And offer hope I found for a brighter tomorrow

When day begins, a new starts here.
I hold all my trails and family so dear
Before the meal, the food is blessed.
I take a moment and find a space to rest
I give thanks, not just for the food on the plate.
But I say a prayer for those unable to have ate
A silent prayer for those who strive.
To help fill them with hope and faith to survive

I stand and walk in kindness now.
With happy thoughts I make a vow
To lift a friend and ease their sorrow.
And offer hope I found for a brighter tomorrow

19.Walk in Kindness Now

Walk in Kindness is a morning prayer set to AI music a gentle vow to start each day with gratitude, lift others in love, and share the Lord’s hope for a brighter tomorrow. I often will use voice to text for my prayers and then save them for a week before I take the Sacrament so this was like as summery but the words “Allow me to Walk in Kindness and for a chance to do what’s right” The Poster has a spelling mistake showing my struggle of keeping my songs about prayer for personal use of adding them to the Tallen Families Stories Collection.

When morning comes and greets the day
I kneel and find a place to pray
My spirit lifts, my heart takes flight
Thank You Lord for another chance to do what’s right
I will stand and walk in kindness now
With joy in my heart, I make this vow
To lift a friend, to ease their sorrow, to share
Your hope for a brighter tomorrow

A silent prayer for those who strive
Fill them with faith and keep them alive
When trials rise, Lord You draw near
I hold my struggles but I won’t live in fear
I will stand and walk in kindness now
With joy in my heart, I make this vow
To lift a friend, to ease their sorrow
To share your hope for a brighter tomorrow

Every blessing, every meal, every breath I take
I thank You Lord for the hands that make
For the life that’s given, the gift on my plate
And a prayer for the hungry who still wait
I will stand and walk in kindness now
With joy in my heart, I make this vow
To lift a friend, to ease their sorrow, to share
Your hope for a brighter tomorrow

Hope for tomorrow, love for today
I’ll walk in kindness, Lord show me the way

20. Pray Through the Day

This is another form of daily rhythm of gratitude and faith. Daily guidance is the walking up before leaving the house maybe even family prayer. Walk in Kindness begins the morning with a vow to live with love and do what is right. The idea of choosing actions of happiness and friendship. Each song reminds us to gives thanks at mealtimes and before rest, remembering those in need. Pray Through the Day ties it all together showing that prayer is not just for moments, but a steady way of living from sunrise to nightfall.

Sunrise spills gold on my window pane
I breathe it in to say your name again
Morning starts with a whispered shout

I’m counting joys I’ve yet to find
Your love is loud, it fills my mind

I pray through the day
In the light, in the shade
Every step, every way, way
I pray through the day
From the first to the last
Every moment I grasp

Lunch break, laughter echoes in the air
Lifting hearts with a quiet prayer
Grace for the meal, grace for the soul
The world keeps spinning fast and wild

But I’m steady like a trusting child
I pray through the day
In the light, in the shade
Every step, every way, way

I pray through the day
From the first to the last
Every moment I grasp
The world keeps spinning fast and wild

But I’m steady like a trusting child
I pray through the day
In the light, in the shade
Every step, every way, way

Every step, every way, way
I pray through the day
From the first to the last
Every moment I grasp

21. Not a Day Will Go

Not a Day Will Go is the most personal of my prayer songs a testimony of faith through hardship. It was written out of the prayers I prayed for my own wants, but also the deeper prayers that asked how to live in God’s way. This song reflects that struggle, and the peace that comes from choosing trust over control. The song ends quick and fast without warning just like our own end.

I was tired of life, the money struggles, the pain in my body,
The weight on my heart, Every day felt stuck,
I tried my own way, I allowed my family to lead the way
The government suggested a pathway, but still nothing worked
Then one day I stopped asking, I made a statement to God and to myself

Every single day is blessed with the ability to change lives
In prayer and persistence, not a day will go by without giving thought
Not a day will go by without action from faith
And not a day will go by that I don’t thank God for the chance to try again

Not a day will go by without this prayer in my heart
God, I pray, please bless this start
I woke up tired and the weight won’t fade
Broken dreams, bills and rent still unpaid

Lord, I tried my way, the world’s a way too
But the doors stay closed, I have no breakthrough
Then I bowed my head,
I found my ground, not in the noise but the quiet sound
A whisper rose, it filled my soul, you’re not alone

You’re not alone
Not a day will go without my faith
Not a day will pass, I won’t give thanks
Even in the storm, I’ll stand and say

God’s love carries me each day
Not a day will go, not a day
Not a day will go without His grace
Friends gave up, the world moved on

But prayer turned weakness into song
I won’t ask, I’ll stand and claim
Each step forward, I proclaim Jesus’ name
Hope’s not lost, it’s alive in me

In every struggle, in every need
I’ll rise again, I’ll rise and sing
For my God is everything
Not a day will go without my faith

Not a day will pass, I won’t give thanks
Even in the storm, I’ll stand and say
God’s love carries me each day
Not a day will go, not a day

Not a day will go without His grace
When the night feels long and the road is cold
I hold the hand that will never let go
Prayer and persistence light my way

Every heartbeat says I will stay
Not a day will go without

 22. Blink of an Eye

Blink of an Eye is a song about how quickly life changes as we grow up. The chorus first came to me while riding in the back of a truck on the way to my niece’s wedding. Now, with the joy of her expecting a baby, I’ve added the first verse to capture how precious and fleeting these moments really are. It’s a reminder to hold on to the memories, because in the blink of an eye, everything can change.

Tiny fingers, once curled tight
Now reach for the sky, taking flight
Yesterday’s cradle, today’s first stride
Blink of an eye, gone too fast

Hold on to now, it won’t last
Time slips through like sand in hand
Blink of an eye, we barely stand
First word whispered, first laugh loud

Dreams in their eyes, heads unbowed
The world gets smaller as they grow proud
Moments stretch, then disappear
Where did the years go from here

Blink of an eye, gone too fast
Hold on to now, it won’t last
Time slips through like sand in hand
Blink of an eye, we barely stand

Shoes too big, now fit too tight
Day turns to dusk, fades into night
But in their eyes, stars still ignite
Blink of an eye, gone too fast

Hold on to now, it won’t last
Time slips through like sand in hand
Blink of an eye, we barely stand
Shoes too big, now fit too tight

Day turns to dusk, fades into night
But in their eyes, stars still ignite

1: Welcome to Canada

Welcome to Canada is a musical celebration of unity across cultures and landscapes. With powwow drums, I really hope someone will add some “Bhangra beats”, Bagpipes flutes from eastern forests, meet western snowy peaks, and maple skies, the song honors both Indigenous roots and immigrant voices. It’s an anthem of promise and pride many tongues, one spirit, standing together as Canada.

“Hey ya, hey ya, hey ya, hey ya, hey ya, hey.”
Whispers of wind through cedar and pine Sky breeze on the land divine
From the prairies wide to the oceans cold Snow kissed peaks where the eagles fall
Heartbeat deep in the drum I hear Ancient voices singing clear

Every step on the sacred ground Echoes stories that still resound
Roots run deep and branches rise In every face the northern skies
Welcome to Canada, the spirit, the flame
Different tongues but hearts the same
From wigwam fire to temple light We stand as one in day and night

Welcome to Canada, land so wide The drum, the flute, the northern pride
Bhangra beats where the powwow meets Footprints blend on snowy streets
Bagpipes call from the eastern shore Languages dancing evermore
We are treaty, we are promise We are colour, voice and solace

Under maple stars align Past and future intertwine
Welcome to Canada, the spirit, the flame
Different tongues but hearts the same
From wigwam fire to temple light We stand as one in day and night
Welcome to Canada, land so wide
The drum, the flute, the northern pride
