A Dino name Pterosaur or a New Bird named Pete?

One day, while exploring near my home, I saw something amazing! It was a flying animal with leathery-looking skin, no feathers, a long, thin tail, and a big wingspan. I had to look twice as it did not move its wings like a bird. I was near 100 Mile house but what was it. This thing almost like something from the time of dinosaurs! At first, I thought: could it be a Pterosaur? Or maybe a new kind of bird?
I didnโt know exactly what it was, but I knew it wasnโt any bird I had ever seen before. It moved differently, gliding after a few flaps, and even the sun reflected off its skin, not feathers! I seen the biggest Golden Eagles in the area several times and this was bigger. The tail was long with a wide end like a spade. I know people say it was crane or heron both birds with feathers that donโt react to the sun. Perhaps feathers could look the same if they somehow got wet? anyways I only got to see it for less then a minute before it was to far away.

This image is Chat GTPs creation of โA Connection to Ancient Storiesโ. After sharing what I saw with some local Native Elders they told me it might have been a Thunderbird. This is powerful creature from their traditions. In many Indigenous stories, Thunderbirds are giant, mighty birds associated with storms and great strength. Some people like me believe these legends could be connected to real creatures. I think they are Real and living animals from the past that are rarely seen today. This is a great example of what a Crytpid is.
It made my discovery feel even more magical. The mystery to me is that I may have seen or caught a glimpse of a living piece of ancient history!
Explorerโs Mystery Checklist
Ready to find something amazing? Hereโs a checklist to help you explore like a real adventurer!
To figure it out, I did three important things:
- I described everything I noticed โ the size, color, shape of the head, and how it flew.
- I asked questions โ Was it a bird? Could it be a bat? Was it something else entirely?
- I asked a professional or (ChatGPT) for help . I talked to Elders local people that lived where the animal lives. I also did an iternet search then asked ChatPGT. They all asked me even more questions so I could think carefully about what I had seen.
1. Look Closely
- What color is it?
- How big is it?
- Does it move fast or slow?
- How does the light shine off it?
2. Notice the Details
- What shape is the head, tail, wings, or body?
- Does it have feathers, fur, skin, or something else?
- What sounds does it make?
- How does it move? (Flap, glide, crawl, hop?)
3. Ask Questions
- Have I seen anything like this before?
- What is different about this one?
- Could it be something rare or something new?
4. Compare and Research
- Check books, videos, and experts.
- Ask family, friends, or a professional (like a scientist or even ChatGPT!)
5. Keep a Mystery Journal
- Draw a picture of what you saw.
- Write down everything you remember.
- Add the date, time, and weather too!
6. Stay Safe
- Explore with an adult if you can.
- Watch from a distance to stay safe and protect the animal.
7. Celebrate Your Discovery
- Every mystery, big or small, is part of your story.
- Share what you saw with others!
Something to think about!
You might think you discovered something new, only to learn that someone else found it 20 years ago. You might never see a rare bug or creature but whatever you do find is still special just like you. There are billions of children and people on Earth. But just like you every creature is awesome in their own way. Good luck finding a chicken jockey in real life just donโt turn what you find into a Lava Chicken meal.
