Terry Brother Spider, Friend of the Grass
Terry Spider began as a playful idea from real life Co-worker I made a Bracelet with a Spider Charm. “Terry Monster” full of energy drinks laughs that spark fueled discussions around First Nations culture and art. He inspired a Spider character with his own story to tell.
The bright green in Terry’s design comes from the grass, a reminder of the energy and movement I felt while dancing as a guest in a Pow Wow. It’s a color of life, energy, and play.
The purple is Terry’s Halloween side Purple against the black made colors that feels both fun and mysterious. It’s also a gender-neutral shade, reminding us that spiders (and stories!) don’t need to fit into boxes of male or female.
Terry Spider is more than a spooky costume or a scary critter. He’s a friend of the grass, a lively companion, and a reminder that inspiration can come from anywhere even a co-workers at Halloween.
- Whitehorse Yukon: People used both the word Native and First People over the titles of “Indian” or “First Nations”. I preferred Sister of Raven and Brother of Wolf
- Williams Lake British Columbia: I wore “Grass Dancer” regalia, and I shared the sacred dances at a Pow Wow.
MY Spider is Inspired by
- Kamloopa Indian Band and my friends Terry’s roots. Terry likes Energy Drinks causing him to have Monster Blood.
- Williams Lake Indian Band (my honored grass honored connections) and native art I grew up with.
- Regional animal of Kamloops is Black Widow spiders.
